How Much Does a Kitchen Remodel Cost? | Bay Area Construction

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in your home and a common subject for home remodeling in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The kitchen is where we spend a lot of time with our family and friends, cooking and eating together. It’s also where we do all of our food shopping and preparation. The kitchen should be open and inviting to everyone who enters it – including you! There are many ways that you can remodel your kitchen to make it more functional for you as well as more beautiful to look at.

You don’t always need an expensive remodeling project either – there are easy DIY projects that will help transform your space if you’re confident in your handyman skills. However, if you need a kitchen remodel contractor in the Bay Area, our team at Hyders Construction Inc. would love to help you get started on making your dream kitchen a reality!

How can I benefit from remodeling my kitchen?

A kitchen remodel will make your house more beautiful to look at as well as more functional for you. You have to think about who will use the kitchen – yourself or everyone in your family. A kitchen is perfect if it has everything that someone needs in it!

What types of kitchen remodels are available?

A new kitchen is something that many people dream about. It’s also something that many homeowners will spend quite a bit of money on. However, a kitchen remodel can be an affordable option if you plan your project carefully.

DIY projects are often less costly than hiring contractors, but they may take more time to complete and might not turn out how you envision. You should also consider the amount of space in your kitchen – certain DIY projects can simply be too large for the average person to handle by themselves.

With that in mind, you can save money by doing some or all of the work yourself! …but should you?

It takes time and patience, but there are some simple home improvement tasks that any homeowner can tackle with just a little know-how and research/planning ahead of time. Even if you only paint the walls and cabinets – a fresh coat of color can add a lot of enjoyment to your kitchen space. For more complicated projects, it’s probably smart to consider a general contractor.

How long does the average kitchen renovation take?

Once you decide to take on a remodeling project, figuring out how long it will take is probably one of the first things that you’ll wonder about. Obviously, that figure really depends on the size, what changes you’re making, and who is making them!

Small kitchen remodels, such as replacing the countertops or applying a fresh coat of paint, can reasonably be finished in a week or less. It may take slightly longer if you decide to tackle the project yourself and work a full-time job.

If you’re trying to do a full scale remodel of your kitchen in the Bay Area without the help of an expert, odds are that it will be an ongoing project for several months (or years). If you bring in a general contractor, they can usually get it done in 3-9 months.

Hyders Construction Inc. finishes most Bay Area kitchen remodels in less than three months because we typically only work on one project at a time.

What is the sequence of major items in a full kitchen renovation?

Once your kitchen project is scheduled and you’re ready to begin, what should you expect? Generally, there are 8 steps involved in a kitchen remodeling project.

  1. Demolition: This includes removing existing cabinetry and appliances, as well as any other items which you don’t want around anymore (like old flooring).
  2. New Flooring: If you need new flooring in your kitchen space because the current one isn’t perfect or if it’s ugly, then that can be installed at this time.
  3. Fixtures: At this point you’ll want to schedule any electrical/plumbing work such as installing a new sink and dishwasher (if needed) and setting up the hot water (and shut off valve).
  4. Cabinets: Your custom cabinets need to be set up and installed (if you’re doing this yourself, be sure you follow proper safety procedures).
  5. Appliances: You’ll want to schedule appliance deliveries at this time so that they can be plugged in and tested before the countertops go down.
  6. Countertops: If you’re using stone or granite for your kitchen countertops, then these will need to be cut to size using a special saw or machine. These are also usually installed here – but not always!
  7. Painting: If painting is part of your plan, now’s the time to do it. This includes taping off doors and windows so no paint gets on them.
  8. Cleaning/TOUCHING UP: The final step in any kitchen remodel is the clean up. If you’re doing it yourself, be sure to follow proper safety guidelines and cleanup procedures so that you don’t cause any injuries or damage to your property!
